Custom Product Names to Use For Printed Labels

You may have long product/variant names that can't fit on a small barcode label, which is frustrating because you don't want to shorten it too much just for printing a label. We have a solution for that by using Shopify metafields, allowing you to keep your product names but also specify a new field just for the label used for printing.

  1. In Shopify, click on the Settings on the bottom left of the navigation bar. Click the  "Metafields and metaobjects" on the left, then click on "Variants".
  1. Click the "Add definition" button at the top
  1. First set the name, and then you'll see the namespace and key populate right below it. You can set the name to whatever you want, but namespace and key must be stocksavvy.label_name_for_printing because that needs to be a certain way so that StockSavvy recognizes it.
  1. It's easiest to access the new metafield in your variants if you pin it, which you can do by clicking the "Pin to variants" button like this.
  1. Now you will have a new field that you can add in every variant. Here's how you would add a "label name for printing" in a variant. Go to a product, click on a variant, and then scroll down. You'll be able to set the label name for printing.
  1. In StockSavvy, you can then choose to use this new "label name for printing" when you create your label template (or change your existing label template to use it).
